Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Hi Everyone

The Alroy Road and Endymion Rd raised junction and crossing points are due to be constructed from 16th February. For many years this has been a very dangerous junction for pedestrians and it's a huge relief that finally we will see something done about it. Myself and fellow councillors for the ward met with officers on site some months ago to seek to address the problem. We agreed at the time the course of action and Cllr Mcnamara committed to allocate a budget. Now that we have a firm date I will keep you updated.

Hi Emine

Are designs for this junction available to view? I'm curious what 'raised junction and crossing points' actually means in practice, particularly in light of this thread and the apparent problems with pavement driving. This is already an issue at Alroy/Endymion with conventional kerbs and no 'raised junction' (you can even see tyre tracks on the pavement in Google Streetview: http://goo.gl/maps/rRY3B).

I assume any designs will be shared with the Haringey Cycling Campaign?

Thanks

Grant

Work has started and, judging by the parking restriction notices, will take another four weeks. There are temporary three-way traffic lights operating, with consequent rush-hour queues.

Dear Emine,

Please can you clarify why Haringey Council has not delivered its promise to provide:

a raised table at this junction

pedestrian crossing points

I've examined the consultants report by the Project Centre and they recommended both.  Please see documents attached.  The officers response in the consultation report is also in agreement.

Can you please explain why these improvements were not carried out?

It is my view that what we have at this junction is mostly "renewal" of the existing road surface, markings, kerbstones and drop kerbs.

The "improvements" which have taken place have done little to improve accessibility for non-vehicle users at this junction and I therefore question whether the aims and objectives of this project have been met?

Emine posted just now on another topic - the opportunity was taken to point out to her this unanswered question.

Gordon

You're assuming here that I have not made an enquiry about this topic as it was emailed to me too and other cllrs. I will post when I have an answer as a members enquiry takes 15 days to get a full response from officers.

The post I just made on another topic was on an issue I had an immediate answer to. I am sure you will agree that the question above is very specific and deserves more technical information and I am able to give. Of course if there is a rule that I cannot post anything on other topics until I have the answer to this question I apologise. :))

Emine, I assumed nothing: in short I am trying to be helpful not critical.

I posted in the Jeremy Corbyn thread that there was a question for you. I posted here that TTTH's question was unanswered (not unaddressed, I'd have used that word if I thought it was so) and I'd flagged it up elsewhere.

Reasons for posts: 1) you posted good news in February: the recent challenging post from TTTH is a long time later (a thread 'bump') so may not have been known to you. 2) I flagged up the question put via this forum to a ward councillor that might not have been raised with you by direct email. 3) Mr Corbyn is a coincidental predecessor of yours :-)  .

I am aware of members' enquiry timescales and so on and obviously it's fiddly technical stuff that takes time - I read TTTH's observations and attachments. And you might have been on holiday and unable to respond immediately, hence another reason for the neutral 'unanswered'.

I think the point is that Emine started this thread back in December and promised to keep us updated.

But it seems that it took a question from TTTH in July to get her to realise that the promised work had not been done.

That's your point John D.  Not mine.

I take full responsibility

Dear Emine,

Just a gentle nudge on my query above.  Do we have anymore clarity?  I think it's in the community's interest to know what why this project was not delivered as per the consultation statement and accompanying documentation.

Many thanks

TTTH, as you'll have seen above I alerted Emine through this forum to your July 27th question in case she hadn't seen it. I got no thanks for it though I was aiming to be helpful to all concerned in case your post had not been spotted.

I hope, then, that you've also sent Emine a followup direct email as well as this public post.

Hi Gordon

Apologies however it was simply that I was surprised that I was asked on an unrelated thread on a separate subject. The implication being that I had posted on one subject whilst ignoring a direct question. It was a far simpler explanation - I had seen that first. As I follow a number of threads on this site whilst I may not post on them even though am often criticised for not posting. I do follow threads to ensure am aware of local issues as they arise. This means that I get lots updates from lots of threads not just ones I have started. You will therefore understand that posting on here whilst great won't alert me as quick as a direct email. The vast majority of our casework does come though our surgeries and email.
I am sure you will appreciate that posting on HoL has often led to some nasty rather personalised posts from a very small minority of participants. I must say the site admin are very encouraging. At times however it's probably far more helpful to read posts and pick up on issues rather then causing then subjecting the original poster to constant updates on their thread of a minority of people trying to get digs in and get the last word. It's been over a year now since the local elections and one would have hoped those who were disappointed with the outcome would have come to terms with it.

However "she" as I am politely described below hopes to get back to you soon with firm answers.

Regards

Emine
