Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Hi,
We are having our whole house done and I would like to re instate our fireplace in the lounge.
How would I go about this?
Does anybody have some experience with local fitters/ chimney liners?
How much would this cost?
The fire place is there in all it's late victoriana prettyness, that's why we'd like to use it from time to time.

Many thanks,
Kris

Hi Kris,

I can highly recommend a guy called Jon Meddings. I originally got his details from a previous HOLer recommendation on the Harringay Online, Recommended Trades & Services section.

Jon completed a chimney sweep & integrity test for us which checks whether or not your chimney needs to have a flue fitted, which ours did. Jon sourced and fitted the flue and then fitted an old fireplace into the opening for us, as well as sourced and fitted a slate hearth.

His workmanship is excellent, he is very tidy and I would work with Jon again if I needed another fireplace re-instating.

The chimney sweep/integrity test cost approx £150

The flue fitting and steel liner cost approx £1200 (we got the cheaper type of steel liner)

I'd highly recommend  Barry Charalambous, The Fitters Firm, 07885200592,  barryc00@hotmail.com. He did my chimney last year, put in a 8" liner, victorian metal surround and a stone mantelpiece. Great job and a good finish and a much better price than other quotes we had.

Thank you very much Skippy and Neil.
Much appreciated. I already got in touch with Jon and will do the same on Monday with Barry.
I really hope we can get it all going!
Of course I meant Linda and Neil...
Thanks!
