Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

I recently removed an old Dimplex fan heater that was mounted on the wall in my toilet and have replaced it with a small electric heated towel rail with a 150w heating element inside.

The old Dimplex heater was connected to a 13amp fused socket and had a pull cord to turn on and off. Now I have connected the towel rail to this socket it remains constantly on as there is no on/off switch on the towel rail and I cannot replace the 13amp fused socket with a switch as its located in a bathroom.

My question therefore is has anyone come across a similar problem? There must be a product that I can buy to replace the 13amp fused socket that will allow me to turn the heater on and off inside the bathroom?

I have seen this however am unsure if it can be placed inside the bathroom. When I asked a screwfix employee they did not know either.

I would be really grateful if someone could shed some light :)  Thanks

The Screwfix employee should have known this! It says suitable for IEE Zone 2 (Bathroom Zone 2 and above), so it should be fine as long as it is not too close to the bath/shower/sink (away from the 'splash zone'). This link has a good diagram to help explain:

I work in lighting, so sometimes get asked this...

Thanks,

Glenn.

It's not the towel rail that's at issue - it's can he install a switched 13A Socket.

Thanks for the diagram Glenn. The towel rail is being installed in an outside zone. does this mean I can have a 13amp fused spur with a switch? Is this legal?
