Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Haringey Council's policy on Finsbury Park Events: a meeting hosted by Islington, at the Mosque

The Finsbury Park Ward Partnership (Islington) is to hold a public meeting at Finsbury Park Mosque on Wednesday Jan 21st at 6:30 pm specifically to discuss Events in Finsbury Park.

It's an opportunity to let Haringey know views about the impact of Events in Finsbury park that for some, ruin summer weekends.

The person to contact is Betul Baris at Islington council, email is Betul.Baris(at)islington.gov.uk, replace the (at) with the appropriate symbol. The wording from the last years meeting is as follows:

"At the last Finsbury Park Regeneration Board (signed up by three boroughs Hackney, Haringey and Islington) it was agreed that the meeting invite should be extended to the Haringey and Hackney neigbouring ward councillors and residents as well as Islington Council relevant neighbouring ward councillors and residents."

By making the effort to go along, one might exert some influence on Haringey's Events policy. Disclosure:

I am a:

Local Resident  (longtime)
Member of Haringey Council  (since May)
Member of Friends of Finsbury Park  (recent)

At the Finsbury Park Mosque this evening, a turnout on a cold winter's evening of nearly 30, not including the two policemen. Two Haringey officers attended, but not one member of Haringey Council's Majority Group.

Many thanks to the three Councillors from Islington's Finsbury Park Ward, for organising this meeting, reflecting the chronic dissatisfaction with Haringey Cabinet's FP Concert's policy, in adjoining Boroughs.

Sadly I couldn't make it. Were there any outcomes regarding the Events policy. Do we know how much revenue was created and where it's going to be spent?

Sadly I couldn't make it.

Ben, don't worry, there'll be more meetings that are organised outside the control of or domination of, Haringey Council. Of the two Haringey Officers who attended only one spoke and it would be unfair to quote or comment on their remarks. Except for the boosting of the Council's Finsbury Park "Stakeholder Group".

This group was begun by Haringey Council and is run by the Council. It's Council-controlled-Minutes were (are?) not published. Membership was by Council-invitation only. It meetings are private. It last met, I'm told, in September. It appears to be set up to:

(a) compensate for the new mega-concert policy;
(b) advance the interests of promoters and
(c) to act as a lightning rod for discontent.

Despite the impact of current concerts on residents – let alone on the residents of Hackney and Islington – no person of the Council Majority Group attended in order to answer residents' questions.

Although the views of residents in Haringey seem to count for little, it appears the views of residents in neighbouring Boroughs count for nothing.

Huge thanks to the Islington Councillors (Finsbury Park Ward) for reflecting public concern and holding the meeting.

Do join the Friends Group – its independent.
