Will there ever be another Harringay food festival? The two we had were fantastic!

No

Why?

Mmmm??

To put on the festival. You need everyone on board....., ladder safety partnership, gardens res assoc, friends of fairlands, friends of the passage, friends of friends, woodlands res assoc,  at least one counsellor that really gives a #**k, living wightman, Harringay traders, an MP would help, the council, TFL, police, and the other emergency services, a crowd funder for £20,000, £40,000- £50,000 from elsewhere (sponsorship possibly) and after you've nailed all that, getting HOLers on board (cos they can be 'orrid' on a bad day),the schools to sort a choir or two, then - general entertainment for all the family along the whole street........ Oh, I could go on, but basically people in the area just don't want to work with each other enough.

too many axes to grind I guess

it's just sad really.

I'm not sure it's about people not wanting to work together. The real issue is that it's a hell of a lot of work and it tends to fall on just a few shoulders. Those shoulders have their limits and I think those limits were reached.

Well I'm willing to take the burden for my community

I'm sure of the facts Hugh.

Mmmmm

I was on the first committee and ran one of the music stages (all the acts performed for free but it’s a big job finding enough acts to fill two stages that reflects the area-a job carried out ably by the music co-ordinator) .

It takes a lot of cash to put on the festival. There’s not a lot of that sloshing around any more and councils can no longer justify using public funds for this sort of event, so money has to be raised from lots of different pots and that is an enormous and full-time job for an event this size.

The committee did a great job sometimes in the teeth of opposition from local traders who didn’t understand the positive impact on their businesses but I don’t blame them for feeling it wasn’t something they wanted to do indefinitely as they all had businesses, jobs, families and other responsibilities.

It is really sad, especially when, before the gentrification began, we had two amazing food festivals.

The food festival helped to gentrify the area Caroline.

Absolutely! As did the various markets we had going. House prices here have nearly doubled since the last food festival.

As they have everywhere in London.  I doubt food festivals have a major impact on the property economy
