Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

I loved this idea picked up via Twitter this morning:

Manchester Science Festival is celebrating Alan Turing's centenary with a nationwide experiment to finish a mathematical riddle that Turing was working on before his death

You can brighten up the Nation, whilst helping mathematicians to explore Turing’s theories about plant growth. They need you to sow sunflower seeds in April and May, nurture the plants throughout the summer and when the sunflowers are fully grown they’ll be counting the number of spirals in the seed patterns in the sunflower heads. Don’t worry - expertise will be on hand to help count the seeds and you’ll be able to post your ‘spiral counts’ online.

As an enthusiastic grower of sunflowers, I'm going to be growing this year's sunflowers in honour of Alan Turing and joining in.

Turing is the reason why I became an ICT Teacher. I think I shall take up that challenge in the planters down my street.

I have a load of seeds for you and anyone else who might want some. I planted a load on Pemberton last year and took the seed heads off. I have just checked them and they look ok.

So, if any one wants any conatct me and come get some.

What would alos be good is if we all try to water them where ever we see them and stop the muppets hacking them down as seems to happen far to frequently.

Just sent you a connecton request. I will give you my adddress and number and  we can arrange for you to come by this weekend to pick some up.

I'll have some too and I want to see if Parkland Walk would like some as well.

The Englishman Alan Turing is widely regarded as the father of computer science. Globally.

While I'm sure he'd be happy to know of the sunflower project, I do wonder what the great man would make of the breadth of teaching of "IT" in council-controlled schools today.

That is so beautiful - as part of the Crouch End Festival we'll be handing out sunflowers seeds to plant around the area - meet at the Clocktower 12 pm Sunday 6 May.  All part of International Sunflower Day - a celebration of Guerilla Gardening.
