Haringey Council Statement on the murder of teenager Tanesha Melbourne

From the Haringey Council website:

Like so many people in Tottenham and across Haringey, we have been horrified this week by the senseless murder of 17-year-old Tanesha Melbourne. For a teenage girl to have her life taken in this way is tragic beyond words. Our thoughts are with Tanesha’s friends and family.

Tanesha was well known in Tottenham, as a former pupil at Gladesmore Community School and because of the active role she played at Bruce Grove Youth Space, where she recently successfully completed mentor training to help other young people to overcome personal challenges.

We have been in close contact with community leaders since Tanesha’s death and are committed to listening to local concerns and to working with partners to ensure those concerns are heard and acted upon.

We echo community calls for unity – and their demands for an immediate end to the violence that is threatening the futures of our young people.

We also support the police calls for information. Please, if you know anything at all that could help shed light on Tanesha’s murder and bring those responsible to justice, share it now.

You can contact the police incident room on 020 8358 0100 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Cllr Eugene Ayisi, Haringey Council Cabinet Member for Communities
