I have got very bad gum disease and need periodontal treatment.

Not always.
Debriding of dead tissue is a common clinical intervention in the Health Care world.
My own personal favourite is Larval therapy. Look that one up,it's brilliant!
Not suitable for gum tissue debridement,clearly,but very effective anyway when used appropriately
