Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Dear all,

Hi! This is my first post here, and I hope it's an appropriate place to write about a new market, which starts on the 10th next to Finsbury park. Here are the details:

1) It's called Stroud Green Market
2) It'll be in the grounds of Stroud Green Primary, Woodstock road N43EX (actually though the main action will be on the Perth road side, opposite the Faltering Fullback)
3) It'll happen every Sunday, 10-2:30, starting 10th September (the weekend after the schools go back)
4) There will be all the farmers market staples, TOP quality & plenty of choice: veg, meat, fish, bread, flowers, local honey, amazing cheese, raw milk, eggs etc. Plenty of organic stuff but I've tried to arrange options for all sorts at different price levels.
5) On top of this there will be the fine foods/health food/deli items, whether this is locally made cake or fresh pasta, ferments, foreign/regional specialities etc

6) we have some really brilliant vegan & gluten-free stalls - all from local people as it happens
7) Good Coffee, HOT FOOD and drinks of all sorts including alcoholic
8) Finally, we really want there to be a good time for everyone with music, entertainment for families & children, benches & tables to hang out at, hopefully someone to fix your bike....

....and home delivery so you can buy as much as you like!

Please let me know what you think - I'm very receptive to ideas as it's really you lot who will make the market work or not - and do spread the word if it's something you're interested in.

Many thanks to all - I hope you can come either on the 10th or any other Sunday!

PS if it's appropriate will someone tell me how I can perhaps have this listed in the farmers market page of the "what's on" section? Cheers!

Wow - thanks both! That is the spirit. All anybody has to do in order to help & keep a community event like this going is (1) to talk to people about it and (2) to turn up and buy stuff. Hopefully quite fun things to be doing! See you on Sunday I hope? do come say hello if you like...

The new market is great - highlights for me are having Marsh Produce back in my life, the sourdough bread and the rosti stand. The kids play area worked really well, and it had a good community buzz.

Hope this is a success.

Will there be fresh fish this Sunday? (The website suggests not - 1st, 3rd and 5th Sunday - but maybe the launch day is an exception?)

No not this week...sorry! It's only convenient for him every other week at the moment but he's said that if it's busy enough he'll commit to it every week, hopefully in October. Fresh fish is one of the most prized products at the markets & it's really hard (at least in my experience) to persuade a fisherman to try something new like this...we'll all have to buy lots to make sure he keeps coming!

So he (David - or actually his wife Bev) will be starting on the 17th, along with a few other stallholders. I'll try to get the website up to scratch but the surest way of knowing what's going on is to come this sunday...I'll put a board up with "next week at the market" or something similar. And of course you can just come and ask me!

Best wishes...

PS just heard that famous french bakery poilane will be send us pastries in the morning.

they're amazing!

Thanks to all who came along! Feed back is much appreciated...

the biggest differences this Sunday will be:

1) 2 fruit & veg farms bring a proper amount of produce rather than just a few skips (sorry about that)

2) Fresh fish & smoked fish

3)more hot food and charcuterie

4) benches & tabes to hang out at (Sorry I didn't organise that very well yesterday...)

I'd be really grateful, not only to see you coming back if you liked the first one, but if you'd remind peope that it wasn't supposed to be a one-off but a regular market that could be a permanent fixture if it's busy enough.

Yesterday was a very good start. Thank you all!

Ed

Fresh Fish for sure this Sunday! - best to come early...
