Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Caught sight of this giant wolf while walking home after xmas - not so much street art as playground art! It's in the playground of Tiverton School, right next to the 'warehouse district'. No doubt it will be deemed unsuitable for kids...but I rather like it.

Does anyone know if this is indeed Boe & Irony who painted this squirrel? Doesn't quite look elaborate enough, but the style and subject matter is similar.

Apologies for the bad photography - had to take photo through an extremely poorly-maintained fence ;)

I wouldn't apologise for the photography. Just explain that you were using the fence as a framing device. Go on to say that you were inspired by Hitchock's use of such framing to create a sense of claustrophobia which, as well as showing the street art, is the feeling you wanted to inspire in your audience. I'd buy that as an explanation!

I think Boe & Irony generally sign their work. So it should be possible to tell if it's by them.

Thanks for sharing

Hehe, yes, it's a new instagram frame. 'Weeds'.

This also made it quite hard to get a close enough look to see a signature. A couple of neighbours have kids at the school, so I'll see if I can find out through them once term re-starts (assuming it hasn't been whitewashed by then!)

Have been along in better lighting conditions, and definitely no signature to be seen. Curiouser and curiouser...

Hello, my name is Resham and I am the head at Tiverton.

Delighted to see that the wolf has grabbed your attention.

The artist is a local artist called Claire Ward -Thornton and she created the mural after consultation with the school community- governors, staff, parents and children.

The children love the finished piece!

Wow, that's amazing! Had no idea it was a commission. Somehow managed to miss all coverage of this, so it's interesting to hear the story behind it :)

Great wolf! Thank you for the background. With that info, I've found the following from the Haringey Indy:

A new mural at a school in Tottenham has answered the question “what’s the time, Mr Wolf?” once and for all.

The piece of work at Tiverton Primary School in Pulford Road was completed by artist Claire Ward-Thornton, who was asked to create “an artistic statement the school could be proud of”.

After consulting with students from Years 4, 5 and 6 she decided to create a wolf inspired by the popular playground game.

It is also a play on the fact that the wall has three clocks on it which help the children know what time it is while they are out playing.

She said: “The wolf is big part of folklore in all cultures and although it can be predatory it can also be quite protective.

“I’m absolutely delighted with the work and we’ve had some many positive comments from pupils, staff and parents.

“The quality of the work gives the children something to aspire to.”

And here is Claire's website.

Hello all,

It's great to hear your interest and support for the wolf! Thanks to Resham and Tiverton school for backing the project. The story of how it came about can be found here, which also leads to a full collection of photos of the wolf in the making. As for the association with Boe and Irony - wow - that's a real compliment, their work is fantastic! I hope the wolf remains a friendly and familiar face in the neighbourhood. Thanks again.
