Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

News has arrived of possible closure to Post Office in Finsbury Park too.

If these plans go ahead - Stamford Hill, Green Lanes, Finsbury Park, Stoke Newington will be closing.  Not sure how that serves communitires across this wide area.

Does anyone know -  HOw to create a Twitter campaign/protest to review these stupid decisions..??

Had to get a stamp to send a letter to South Africa yesterday- 40 minutes wait in queue at WH Smiths. Isn't privitisation great.

Hi Kevin, you are absolutely right to point out the frankly ill thought out and ridiculous intensions to close these Crown Post Offices. A campaign to prevent the closure of Harringay Crown Post Office has been up and running since the beginning of the year and a very successful Public meeting was held on 7th March with only 2 weeks notice. Attached is a report on the front of 'Tottenham & Wood Green Independent'. Similar campaigns have been running in Crouch End, Muswell Hill and Lower Edmonton and thus far no franchisee has been found. It is the intention to have further campaigns launched in Finsbury Park, Stoke Newington and Stamford Hill in the coming weeks and months. Following the public meeting it is intended to hold a meeting of individuals who have shown an interest in forming a campaign committee, possibly on 17th May.

Further, it has been rightly pointed out that ramming the Wood Green Office into the back of WHSmith is not going to be ale to service the growing 'clientele'. It is essential that we have community campaigns for all offices due for closure. If you or anyone would like to help please let me know. If you do take to twitter please consider tagging myself: @CerdynJones and @CWUnews

Hi Steve,

Thanks for your swift reply.  Great to hear there is already a campaign on this P.Office. Do you know if there is a link to campaign group.

I am also a member of a NextDoor forum group.  A recent post also mentioned the PO in Finsbury Park is also possibly closing.  This along with the others you mention - makes utterly NO sense at all.

A joint approach covering all possible closures would be good and raise the profile ALL round.

Hi Kevin. Thanks for you reply and keen interest in the campaign/s. The person that is co-ordinating things across all the Crown Post Office's you have mentioned is Kevin Carey and having spoken to him he is happy for you to contact him directly on: n1posties@hotmail.com

For your information there are nearly 70 Crown Offices nationwide that are facing the same fate and the aim is to have a community based campaign for each of them. Kevin is the central person for those you have mentioned - he has 8 in total! Clearly it is a tall order to organise so many and keep them going hence I have taken a lead role for the Harringay Office on Green Lanes as I live nearby. It would be great to have the same for all 8. Any support you and others can give would be most welcome. Please get in touch with Kevin and I look forward and welcome any ongoing support you can give.
