Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Yesterday morning at about 8.45am I was crossing Green Lanes at the junction with Umfreville Road as a scooter came down past the Arena centre. The passenger seemed to gesture in my direction. I had my phone in my hand but wasn't on the phone and when I saw they were wearing masks, I knew immediately what their plan was. As I reached the pavement on the other side, they did a u-turn to stop in front of me but I had already put my phone behind my back and backed myself against the shop front and was shaking my head at them to say "not this time boys". When they saw this, they drove away and I saw that the reg plate on the bike had been covered. So just another warning to.people to be aware of what's around you if you use your phone in the street.

Did you report it? Covered plates would at least attract a £1000 fine.

Highly likely that the scooter is stolen.

More than likely.

Yes I reported it...but you have to catch them before you can fine them
This is very distressing to you and I hope you recover from the shock soon.

I always try and hold my phone in a clutch with my fingers wrapped round it to make it less easy to snatch.

It might be worth mentioning that installing tracking apps, like find my IPhone and Android Device Manager can at least render the phones and tablets useless.

If you have these apps fitted and your phone is lost/stolen as soon as you can, get to either another compatible phone with those apps or a PC (plenty of Internet Cafes in GL) and put them into lost mode including a clear message reading something like 'This phone has now been immobilised and WILL NOT WORK - even if you try to reinstall the operating system. Please hand this phone into the nearest police station.'

I have tested this and even if they do try and reinstall the software, the app will give them a message that the phone is in lost mode and they need to input the original email address the phone was set up with in order to proceed.

It might not get your phone back to you, but if enough people did this it would help negate the benefit of swiping the phone.
