Someone was asking for a recommendation recently, well I recommend Shahan of SCConnect.  He was very courteous and helpful, telephoned to say he'd be slightly delayed, fixed my connection quickly and charged a lot less than a BT engineer.

So he was allowed to handle BT equipment? I wonder about this because with British Gas (unless I am mistaken) only their engineers are allowed to touch the main equipment.

O yes, the wired-up connection thingie he replaced was inside the house so no problem there.

Thanks, but doesn't that technically belong to BT? I thought BT always maintained that the wiring was theirs and only the handset was ours... I could be wrong, though.

No I don't think it does.

Why not ring them to clarify if you are worried about this.

Am just getting my able builders to have a look to see if there's anything that can be done and if not will call this engineer. Very pleased to have seen the recommendation as it's absurd and unfair BT charge £130 when the problem is nothing we customers have caused. The technical complexity of such things means they have customers over a barrel.
