Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

"There’s a nice atmosphere about Harringay – good quality people visit and live here"

Gokyuzu: growing in fame after it's listing (accidental or not) on Trip Advisor as London's second most popular restaurant.   Photo: Hugh

In the slipstream of all the hoo-ha around Gokyuzu created by the Trip Advisor listing, there was a nice piece on the Triganome blog a couple of weeks back that I've only just come across.

Blogger Ramis Cizer provides a little background to the restaurant's development and feeds back some very nice comments from Gokyuzu boss Veysel Yavuz.

Reporting on Yavuz's impressions of the area, the blog finishes with the following:

He’s also noted a trendy, professional in the area. Something he believes will continue, he said: “Everyone knows Harringay for its Turkish cuisine and people come from all over. I’ve noticed an increase in what you might call “middle-class clientele”, there’s a nice atmosphere about Harringay – good quality people visit and live here.”

Holy jumping Jehosophat!

Suddenly I feel thoroughly unworthy of living in Harringay. "Good quality people visit and live here." How can I ever again pretend to possess the hyperballs of an UberMensch diner fitted by grace or nature to munch equine-meatballs or equine-lambshish in the Yavuzian Heaven known as Gokyuzu, with or without its multiple umlauts?  How, after nearly four decades of slouching my way along the Middle-class-clienteled boulevards of Green Lanes, can I risk soiling the Cisoriental welcome mat of this pleasure dome of Xanadu, while attempting my poor impersonation of Yavuz's great discovery, the trendy professional?  Should I, rather than throwing myself under the wheels of the next 29 or 141, revisit the Cizerian Sections of that connoisseur of Doner, Shish and Lukewarm Flat Bread, the Triganome Blog, or see what Trip Advisor has to say about the delights of the London Shelton?  Advice please - I am Disillusioned, Dis-orientated, Desperate and Depressed.

You got it. My post was uniquely aimed at shifting riff-raff like you out of the area, OAE.

But seriously, to avoid incoming brickbats from any other readers, I wan't assuming that Mr Cizer was making class-based qualifications. For "good quality people", I read pleasant/friendly etc.
