Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

We were up at Myddleton House this morning and having asked one of the gardeners to identify the plant pictured above, I learned that it was the Phytolacca Americana, or Amercian Pokeweed.

The gardner, Brian, went way beyond identification, however. Having told us what the plant was, he got his fork and walked us round till he found a suitable pokeweed then dug it up and gave it to us. So kind.

Having checked it out since coming home, I've found out that all parts of it are poisinous to humans. I can live with that. Be that as it may, the plant also has a reputation of being somewhat invasive. From what I can find on the web, it's only mildly so and can be easily controlled. So far, so good. But, having made the mistake of planting a non-clump-forming bamboo a number of years back, I thought it might be wise to check if anyone else has any experience of this plant.

 It's an interesting/arresting looking plant.

However, at the risk of being a kill-joy I'd be wary of a non-native, potentially invasive and poisonous plant.

Yours horticulturally,

Ewan

Thanks both.

Nope but it sounds painful
