Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Towards Harringay House from Hogs Back c1880

Yet another old photo in which Harringay House is masked by trees. The road in the centre ground is the yet to be built up Wightman Road

Nice one Hugh.

Great picture - especially as between 1950 and 1960 I used the hogs back regularly and especially when at Stationers. Hard to tell but I reckon this is not far from the site of Harringay West Station and is looking north east-ish toward Beresford Road area? Which means this is on/close to the footpath we used 70 years later and 60 years ago now....

I don't think it's far from the station. The location of bend in the river just under the X of my watermark is now roughly between Seymour and Warham about half way down. The trees on the hill are in the location where Hewitt/Allison are today. (Dick's house on Wightman I guess, is just beyond the trees on the extreme left.)

Surely this is from where Chettle Court is now?

Yes somewhere around there and the Station, John. Chettle Court is at the end of what used to be called the Hog's Back - the ridge on which Ridge Road and Mountview Road now stand.

If you use the button to view the picture at full size. You can just make out what looks like a goods wagon standing on the rails on the extreme left of the picture. That suggests that it's on the goods yard lines. The spur for them was just where the northern end of Chettle Court is today.
