Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Almost ashamed to admit, I'm currently a smoker - but never indoors. With the nicer weather of summer I've been able to move up and out of the cellar and into the garden. And that's where my cigarettes and lighter would normally live, right outside the back door.......until recently.

A few weeks ago, I went out for a cigarette and my cigarettes were missing. My old Zippo lighter was there but no cigarettes. Why would someone jump the fence just to steal my cigarettes. I couldn't work it out, but certainly felt a little unnerved. A couple of days later, I went down again and this time both cigarettes and lighter were gone. I was begining to get a bit worried. The next evening I was sitting on the back step, turned round to check the clock and found a young light-coloured fox standing six inches from me. Pieces began quikcly to fall into place and I tested my theory a little later when I saw him again and left an empty ciagrette packet by the back door. Sure enough the little fox came and took it a few minutes later.

Over the past few weeks we've seen him around alot and he's the boldest fox I've met. Univited and unencouraged he's been approaching me and coming right up to the back door. Then this evening, as normal I'd left all the downstairs back doors open and was upstairs on the computer. My other half was downstairs in the living room. I must have caught sight of something out of the corner of my eye and turned to see the fox standing there at the door to the upstairs offfice. Shocked, I shouted at him and he ran out. To get upstairs, he'd come in through the french windows in the dining room, passed within inches of my partner and come upstairs - not into the kitchen note, but upstairs. Why? For good measure he took a slipper with him on the way out. The slipper, (like the lighter) was later retrieved from the garden. So watch out ladder residents, there's a furry thief about! I thought it was unusual to have a fox come into a house with people about. But looking around on the internet, I'm not so sure. This article suggests otherwise - Fox Article

And how about this for a bold fox - A Bold Fox Video

I felt a bit guily, but a couple of days ago, I thought I ought to show Monsieur Renard who was king of this castle. So I sprayed him with the hose. I haven't seen him since and I kind of miss him now......

There are a lot of foxes about in the ladder it seems - I disturbed two in the back garden on Friday evening. I'm really surprised about one going indoors though, I'll have to watch out for that!

Mr Fox has got way beyond a novelty now. I can no longer leave any doors open in the evenings, otherwise anything on the floor is fair game. Foxes jusr aren't SUPPOSED to be comfortable wanering int oth house; the chicken coop sure, but not the house - especially not MY house.

I'm dealing with a lot of fox activity at the school at the moment. Adolescent foxes are the worst. Every item you can imagine is found chewed up and abandoned. They can sure show the kids a thing or two about imaginative play!

They are presumptuous blighters these Green Lanes foxes. I was woken by one standing on my windowsill. However, I am not convinced by your theory Pip as much of our neighbourhood is pretty wiffy.
