Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Cafe Tramp has closed for a refurbishment to become a fish and kebab bar.

Will be interesting to see how much they change the decor, given the effort put into it in the first place.

I can't imagine Hashtag will be too pleased about another fish place so close but we'll have to see exactly what it turns out like.

Oh dear, shame they can't change it to a Tapas place now we have lost La Vina.
Oh no, really? that is a shame.

The current menus have a sizeable fish quota (but not for me) and the chef's CV mainlines on fish so there's no new challenge to Hashtag I think. The kebab bar with original recipes - aiming to outclass the massed ranks of competitors further north on Green Lanes?

Here's the notice -

I emailed them a week ago, so far no reply. Nor is there any sign of work starting. Holidays, I hope. Haldun did take a looong time to get it open......

it's no surprise to see them having to re-vamp - opening a relatively expensive place was always a risk and they got off to a less than perfect start, which means i suspect they lost a lot of potential return trade right at the beginning

and while it's nice inside it's not an ideal location being by that busy intersection

clealry the kebab bar will be to try to increase footfall and perhaps have a takeaway element but whether they can combine the two remains to be seen

The Bec's regulars will be pleased.
Puke bag at the ready. GL’s culinary monoculture breeds ever more bizarre variants...
Maybe 'exiting menu' was a Freudian slip.
A foodian slip...
It was a scaled down Sarastro... RIP
Tramp was a Cypriot Templar style of interior. I was bowled over by the interior, quite something & very eclectic.

http://www.sarastro-restaurant.com Dury Lane, another London Cypriot connection. Check Google images.

I stumbled upon Sarastro when I was a student in the 90's, the owners daughter was at Saint Martins at the time, the owner sadly died five years ago, but is well remembered.

Very interesting, thanks.

I have had some great weekend brunch meals there which i hope they will continue.

But hey guys, naughty of me I know - but I can't resist - has no one noticed the 'funnies' on their door notice?

Back in my slightly younger days when Tramps was a relatively respectable brothel posing as a massage parlour at least the buggers could spell and write passably correct English. Indeed my memory is that their late 1980s exiting menu was exciting indeed, living up to their earlier entrancing recipes. O tempora! O mores!
