Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Help please question for parents of primary children: Do haringey schools usually start reception children in second week of autumn term?

I wonder if any mums and dads can help me.  My daughter will start reception this September and I have impression schools round here usually start recpeption children in second week of term - want to book a holiday first week of September so keen to check if that’s right.  Thanks in advance. Kathy

Hi Kathy

it does depend on the school. For example Chestnuts seem to start all the children in a single week. Whereas South Harringay stagger start dates and some children don’t start until the end of September.

Probably safest to check with the school(s) you are yrying to get in to

According to Haringey Council's website, the return date set across the borough is Monday September 3. But schools usually add a couple of inset (teacher training) days onto the end of the holidays to get themselves ready, so I imagine most will be back on Weds 5/Thurs 6. As Priya says, you're best off calling the school where you're hoping to get a place.

Ours staggered according to age. My kids are summer born and didn’t start till 2 weeks after the term started but as others said better call the school. Also, they school websites usually have all term dates on them.

Most do a staggered start. At Chestnuts they do it over a week and a half with the youngest children starting on the first day back. But they only do half days for the settling in time, at least they did when my daughter started there.

So if your child’s birthday is before the end of 2018 it’s likely they’ll start towards the end of the settling in period.

That’s interesting and makes sense. Our school got the oldest children to come in first.

Yes they do, usually a gradual introduction to full day
