Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Candidates for Council Office would do well to say what they propose to do about the following two disgraceful situations -

I have never seen our roads in such a poor state of repair. All of the Ladder roads have three or four major potholes; on Green Lanes south of Endymion there is a pothole large and deep enough to swallow a baby buggy complete with occupant or a G-Wizz. There is a huge, but happily shallow, depression on Turnpike Lane outside the Lebanese grocer and a deep rut traversing the Lane. The Council may well say that these are caused by winter frosts but this winter was relatively mild. Suburban roads in Moscow are in much better condition and, as you know, they really do have frost.

Candidates and current Councillors, why are our roads in such atrocious condition ?

Secondly, parking charges are going up - as they do. But in the Council-run car park behind M&S in Muswell Hill the charge for 1 hour parking has gone up overnight from £1.20 an hour to £2.25 an hour.

Candidates and current Councillors, why has the charge more than doubled when payment is now by telephone ( a further charge ? ) so the Council now does not need to pay someone to empty the pay-and-display machines ? How can you justify that increase ?

Your answers may affect the result of the upcoming May election.

Hi Zena,

What is the Council's current process for damage caused to vehicles by potholes?

Hi Michael,

It's certainly not a Red Route (St Anns Road, just by the turn for Suffolk Road).

Such a large gap between the target and what was achieved suggests that there are some oversight issues beyond just the contractor.

Hi Andrew

I agree with you and I think this does need some detailed scrutiny. My experience is that where services are contracted out or commissioned, it is essential that the client or commissioner is astute and aware of all the issues to ensure they are in control of the contract and specifications.

Having been in constant correspondence about the potholes, and reading between the lines,  I think it is clear there is a problem with the contractors which will  need resolving.

A builder on our road got bored of waiting for the council to fix them and in filled them in on his own. good chap.

Little, if any, improvement.

A few potholes have been outlined in white paint ( which at least makes them easier to spot ) but not filled.

Most are just getting worse.

There is a huge pothole on Alfoxton Avenue as you turn to Green Lanes from West Green Road.

Thanks to Zena and Karen who have shown concern: that's two of my three votes

Hi John

I know the pothole you mean. I have already reported the potholes around this area of Green Lanes and West Green Road but will now highlight this one again!

Potholes get worse if left unrepaired? Really? As well as costing a bit more to fix? Who'd have guessed?
Plus potential damage to vehicles and opening local councils to being sued? There's a complete enigma for you.

Further exploring this unexpected magical mystery tour down our highways, I wonder if turning three-lane roads into a single lane with parking spaces on either side might mean the lane in the middle - the crown of the road - may take more of a pounding?
