Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

At last a detailed write-up with pics (including the interior) of the new design Moorgate line trains.  They are currently under construction and in testing at the Siemens factory in Germany.  It's a blog post by a railway journalist, Paul Bigland.

Interior pic is near the bottom of the longish blog post.  Increased capacity (seated plus standing) officially around 100 more than the current trains.

Arrghh, further digging shows it will be longitudinal  inward-facing Tube-layout seating for Barking - Gospel Oak, a mixture of longitudinal and transverse seating for the Lea Valley line. But, at least there will be armrests and my experience of the seat width on other London Overground trains is that they're wide enough for the 'adequately' upholstered. I agree you can't get as much of the view ahead compared to a forward-facing window seat though.

All the London Overground Class 710s will have longitudinal seating as in the Class 378s on the North, West, East & South London Lines. If no further problems the first one might be in service on the Barking - Gospel Oak Line in two months. Next to get them will be the Euston - Watford Junction Local Lines service around the turn of the year and then the Cheshunt/Chingford/Enfield Town services out of Liverpool Street around April/May.

On a separate thing, I had no idea the Highbury & Islington overground to New Cross had gone to 24hr service. Impressive. Apparently other lines could follow suit in certain areas up and down the country.

However the new timetable next week means the trains from Haringey and Hornsey to Hatfield and welwyn have been dropped.

You now have to change at Ally pally.

There will be two trains an hour (offpeak Mon - Fri) that call at Harringay and Hornsey and take you direct to Hatfield and Welwyn (depart Harringay at 16 and 46 mins past the hour). That's a loss of one train each hour from the present direct service every 20 minutes. 

The present direct hourly service from Harringay/Horney to Stevenage and Letchworth via Hertford North will cease, though. Pity that, it was almost a rural ride once past Hertford.

As for weekends, can't see a timetable online, yet (have to search the National Rail site on a day-by-day basis)..

So its now Autumn, Any news when we will start seeing higher capacity trains (with air-con not that its much use now the hottest summer on record is over)?

This was very much a preview. Platform staff and drivers are at the start of training, but it looks (to me) to be reasonably consistent with the plan to launch some new trains into regular service from the start of the new timetable in early December, with a full new fleet by May 2019.

A lot better than the shemozzle on our other Harringay line!
