Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!
Burnt Wall at @Homebase
Yesterday I passed the wall at the back of Homebase, Finsbury park side just before the Thai restaurant on Green Lanes.
This wall has been burned out since I believe a bike was set on fire there over three years ago.
Over this time, absolutely zero steps have been taken to paint over or fix the wall.
I have spoken to managers in Homebase who say that part of the building is not theirs.
I have also spoken to the SNT representative of this part of the road, George, and his team has done nothing either.
Meanwhile, this garish sight has been there for all to see for several years, and now graffiti has been sprayed on top to add insult to injury.
I cannot think of another borough in London where a charred wall could be left like that for years on end, with the council being perfectly fine with it.
Is this eyesore the image we want to project of Harringay, just a few years after the redevelopment, that of a war-torn ghost town?

I'm wondering if this might actually be TfL's responsibility -- there's something about the design of the grilles and doors that makes me think it could be a ventilation shaft/electrical inlet for the Piccadilly Line, which I suspect runs just beneath. It seems not dissimilar in style to the monolithic substation (if that's what it is) on the corner of Colina Road and Green Lanes, which is definitely a bit of Underground infrastructure. Mind you, this is just speculation...

No, it's an electricity sub-station, responsibility of UK Power Networks.

UK Power Networks might also bring pressure to bear on the Arena management, especially since their protective grille has been damaged.

I reported this to the local Enforcement officer who assured me it has been followed up. It is in Seven Sisters ward so I included the ward councillors in the rmail. If you want to contact them they are:

Homebase (lock, stock and two smoking barbecues) has been sold for £1 to Hilco, the restructuring (ahem) specialists.
Peripheral to the specific discussion, but relevant to Homebase Harringay management's motivation to fix this damage.
