Disturbance Stanhope Gdns
Another disturbance been going on down Stanhope this evening. Lots of threatening shouting behaviour by various groups of men running up and down the street plus into Portland Gdns. I think there is some sort of gang stuff going on. It looked nasty about 10pm with some men brandishing big sticks. Police arrived then thankfully.

You didn't see or hear the confrontation Osbawn that was going on right in front of my place. These guys looked like they wanted to see blood- big men all whipped up into great anger with big sticks can do a lot of damage. Last summer someone was stabbed here. I fear someone will be killed down here soon.

I do realise that John and Osbawn but after that nastiness last night, which isn't the first time as often things going on out there, I'm feeling upset and not much in the jokey mood I'm afraid.

Hi Peter, thanks for the usual advice. I don't usually call the police but did last night when it got really bad but I wasn't the only one to do so. I'll raise it with the GRA and see what they can do. I feel there is great need to bring the different sections of the community together somehow to sort out their differences otherwise this will just happen again.

Isn't there a rotating cast of drunken vagrants who basically engage in random belligerence on the corner of Barclays? It's been an ongoing issue for months...

There were shenanigans going on from those on the corner but they've been gone. Last night involved local groups Kotkas.

i wonder if it’s linked to the recent PKK activity? I wouldn’t be surprised if some of the Turkish men took exception to the graffiti that was daubed all over their businesses

Maybe Penguin, that could be what triggered this incident.
I've now been in touch with the GRA and I know that they are liaising with the police about this incident and others around the area including drug dealing at the end of the street. Much appreciate their efforts and time.Best wishes to all.

Sorry to say this has been going on ever since I moved to the gardens in 1996. And actually agrre it's a lot less frequent and dangerous now. Finally someone was shot just opposite in about 98ish I think and things have been much calmer since with a bigger police presence. Yes it is frightening when it's right outside your house and I was worried they might smash my Windows. Thankfully it didn't happen
