Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Did anyone else find the pneumatic drilling incredibly disturbing at midnight last night (Weds) on Quernmore Road? It was right outside my house. I went to ask and they said some people had lost power nearby. But really, it couldn't wait? The entire pavement was left up this morning and no one was there. I can;t quite believe they are allowed to just rock up and start drilling at that time. Anyone any ideas what happened?

Well I'd settle (and I've had to, within the last two years) for a disturbed night if I knew it would get my power back quicker (or my neighbours'). Freezer. No central heating or hot water. No IT. Ultimately, no smartphone. Plus UK Power have a statutory duty (backed up by consumer compensation costs) to supply an essential utility.  Finally, it's not like it comes along regularly - I mean it's not a Finsbury Park concert, is it.

It was midnight, mid July so very sure central heating isn't an issue. Not sure why smartphone would be either. I also imagine most people would be past using their IT and in bed, like myself. I've managed to get myself through a night without power. I don't think it warranted a pneumatic drill outside my bedroom after sociable or working hours, the disruption was terrible. Sorry if I come across as selfish, but it isn't really an emergency at that time.

It was one house apparently. They gave the go ahead to start the drilling at 11.30pm. If they have medical equipment then I totally understand. If they don't then...yeah, not really happy about that. Had it been me, I'd have taken one for the entire street not being able to get to sleep, kids being woken up. But that's me I guess. :-/

The council are saying no, not after 11pm. The fault was reported early in the afternoon, someone should have warned us. Perishables would already have gone so it must be a medical reason. I'm sure no neighbour would push the button at that time otherwise..

That could be true. Gosh I hope it doesn’t start again tonight!
