Harringay online

Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Almost every night, normally around 2-3am over where I live.

Why?

There is no way any criminals needs chasing around on such regular basis around the same time middle of the night and I thought there were some rules about "exercises" for Police helicopters so why????

Anyone knows?

WHY, seriously.

I chanced to hear the BBC Radio 5 national radio 0600 bulletin which reported that a man had been shot and another man had been stabbed "in Finsbury Park".

Also, on the BBC London Live Latest Updates page, this timed at 0025:

Severe disruption: A503 London both ways
A503 London - A503 Seven Sisters Road in Finsbury Park closed in both directions from Manor House to Twelve Pins Traffic Lights, because of a police investigation.

The helicopter is up there for a purpose beyond simply irritating some people.

MPS Haringey Twitter:  https://twitter.com/MPSHaringey/status/1148358899290071040

"High visibility patrols will be in place tonight and a section 60 Order has been authorised for the local area."

I expect the high visibility patrols would be backed up by helicopter audio-visibility tonight.

Instead of just copying police twitters why don't you question MPs and the Govt. about policing in London.

Earlier (July 2nd) on I wrote "As a local council tax payer etc., etc. I would like to know why the police thought that it would be useful to have the helicopter going round and round for an hour. What did this achieve?  Did this action catch any villains? or was it just window dressing i.e. the powers that be reduce police numbers on the ground, but retain the helicopters - so that the police are no longer pro-active i.e. walking the beat etc. but are reactive waiting for incidents to happen before rushing out in their cars and helicopters to deal with the trouble."

The twitter seems to confirm what I wrote - the police with their reduced numbers can only react to trouble - hence the "high visibility patrols" and helicopters after the incidents have occurred.

We need police on the streets to stop incidents happening in the first place.

As for the notion that having ones sleep shattered at 2am is simply an irritation, then I have to disagree.

PS

Once again helicopter going round and round over South Tottenham - since 10:45pm (14.07.2019)

Well that's odd because I'm basically just over the railway line from you and I can't hear anything.

I can hear it quite clearly - it's going round and round South Tottenham.  Perhaps it is "a commercial helicopter doing a regular run back to base" as you suggested recently!!!!

Let's hope Senegal win in the final - but beware it's this Friday  at 20.00 so it could kick off again.

Well it has finally flown away at about 00:35.  Nearly two hours.

What did its endless circling accomplish?

Afore ye go then, you might Google 'RAF low flying' to see where they do tactical low flying which is the 'Top Gun' stuff along valleys. Central Wales, the Scottish Borders and the Highlands, I read. There's even a publication breaking down data on complaints about general low flying (not just that stuff)  by UK area. Back to the earplugs.....

Environmental cost? How much petrol does it take to keep one of those up there?  More than the cost of coffee to keep foot patrols awake.

Apologies for the delay in responding.

Agreed that helicopter monitoring would be cost effective etc., BUT if the disturbance being monitored was the mini riot by Algerian football fans on the 13th then I have to ask why if the helicopter was deployed for two hours, why were there no arrests?  What is the point of having the helicopter going round and round for two hours, if the Met police do nothing at street level?

See the Daily Mail report: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-7246999/Fans-set-fireworks...

Contrast the lack of arrests in this riot with the arrest of over a 1000 peaceful people on the recent Extinction Rebellion demo in London - arrested, charged and now brought to court.  So if you are peaceful you get the full force of the law, whilst if you are a vandalistic rioter the Met do nothing.

There was talk some years ago that Police was going to use Small Drones.                                                           As they get better. Cheaper and less local disturbance

Forget to mention that aware that a couple of Early hours Helicopter flights might have been London Air Ambulance Flights.

Which does fly around very low when coming into land

Do remember hearing and seeing it one early morning
