What new hub?

Hi Bob, this is a key part of the wood green masterplan, especially now the owner of the Mall has backed out of its demolition and crossrail is looking less likely. The councils workforce is currently split across 8 buildings in wood green, they're looking to relocate all their services into one new building to reduce their running costs. They're calling it a hub.

The preferred option is to combine their offices with a new public pool on the site of the wood green library. Haringey has the lowest pool provision in London, and they're getting support from Sport England to provide it. They can also then redevelop or sell off the other sites to create new housing including a lot of affordable housing.

It seems smart enough, but they started this process in 2015 and they're still carrying out feasibility studies so it may be a while yet.

And if anyone

Doesn't know what

'State of the art'

Means,

Take a walk down

Or cycle up

Wightman Road.

"State of the art..." think they must be thinking of Camden's recent offices in the Kings Cross redevelopment - the leisure centre there seems to be top class.

So I don't see why not.

"I wouldn't have seen swanky new offices for council staff and a leisure centre as the highest priorities in Haringey. Where is the money coming from?"

The money would proibably come from redeveloping the current Council HQ which, quite frankly, is an architectural stain on the Wood Green corner, such is the imposing ugliness of the building. I have bene in there too and acccess is not fit for modern council offices that should open and easily accessible to the user stakeholders = workers and the local community.

All will depend on the execution of the scheme and Harinegy Council unfortunately does not have good from in this area. Just look how they colluded with Grainger PLC to impose some very, very ugly generic architecture on Seven Sisters in the heart of a conservation area. Teh whole way in which they went about it was very Trumpesque. You need to be VERY VIGILANT!

Also there has been specualtion about off loading teh Civic Centre for some years and this would be so short sighted as the builidng is very attractive despite the neglect of teh owners (Harinegy Council) And there is scope for refurbishment and development on the huge carpark.... housing?

I worked at the Camden offices in Kings Cross until I retired a few years ago. They were paid for by selling off buildings that weren’t really fit for locals or staff to use. The money from selling these bought excellent new offices that allowed staff to work alongside others they were delivering services with, a far better experience for local people accessing services, a new library, and a pool and fitness centre in an area where the only facilities like this cost a fair amount to use.  It can work to everyone’s benefit if it’s done right

Exactly...need councillors who are on the ball and officers also. Residents need to be vigilant and hold the council to account.

Previous regime was deviously out of sync with real commnity involvement, interest and progress. Only in ticking boxes and no doubt under the influence...

Presentbregime slightly bettter but still inept...evidnce of improvement in officer attitude.

Residents need to double up efforts and vigilance...
