Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Can you recommend a professional to fix a WiFi issue in my house?

I have 3 WiFi boosters in my  terraced house, with the Virgin router upstairs,  but the WiFi is unreliable and inconsistent, especially downstairs, at the back of the house (extension).

I have Ring and Nest but am experiencing constant connectivity issues.

Can you recommend  a professional to fix this problem?

 Thanks

WiFi extension?

You could try the ever-reliable Marek from Warham Road.

Marek Kosierkiewicz  of ITBox  (  https://itboxcs.co.uk/  ) is Ladder-local and has bags of recommendations on here.

[Edit - Hugh ahead of me by 40 seconds!]

You should go with "mesh wifi" instead of boosters. Those boosters are generally terrible and cause devices to disconnect and reconnect all the time as they switch.

Google do a mesh wifi but it's a bit pricey, BT have one, also there is a cheaper option - the Tenda MW6 (I use this). 3 of any mesh wifi system should cover your whole house, I have 2 and it more than covers end to end of first floor terraced flat with no issues.

You can set mesh wifi up yourself very easily, the only other thing you will have to do is to turn off the wifi on your Virgin router: https://www.virginmedia.com/help/virgin-media-hub-turn-off-wireless

If you make your mesh wifi the same Name and password as your current wifi you wont have to reconfigure your devices to connect.

Thank you All.

I have 3 wi-fi extenders. Netgear, BT and TP.   They might not be set up correctly though and I keep on moving them around just to get WiFi to work

But I’ve never heard of mesh WiFi, thank you Jez, this might be what I need. Seems like a good idea.

I second the google WiFi, they sell it in Argos, £199 for 3 units. Totally worth the money we have WiFi all the way to the back of the garden now.

After trying boosters and home plugs (wifi through the mains) and various other things, we tried a mesh system. I was prepared to return it as I did not believe the advertising claims, but it has proved to be excellent. Three small boxes, (one as the initial router and two others strategically placed) cover the whole of our three floored victorian house with thick walls and to the end of our back garden. They were remarkably easy to set up and ours came with an app to help find the best locations for placement. Not had to touch them since set up. We are also using the virgin router, but now use it as a modem. Mesh system boxes work with each other and manage traffic to numerous devices.

May I ask which system you went with?

I would also be interested to know which mesh system you used.

With Wifi access points / boosters, the important thing is to keep them all running on the same frequency (2.4GHZ).  I played around a lot with these when I installed them into my properly last year and now have it working perfectly and get full coverage around our place, even to the Ring camera's outside.

Mesh is def a much better system with less faff needed but more costly.

I went with the tp-link deco system. It got better reviews than the google mesh system and I think it was around the same price. Both are relatively easy to buy additional units for should you need them, but we found that 3 was enough to cover our 4 bed house and garden.

Thanks Ian

Just taken a look and there seem to be a variety of TP LInk deco. The most common seems to be the  M5. The M9 looks pricier.
