Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

All day, even in pouring rain, the fruit trees in my garden have been bursting with birds from massed goldfinches with their song like little bubbles bursting, squabbling starlings, blackbirds, long tailed tits, robins and so many blue tits. The blue tits have even been flying onto the brickwork around my window and have been pecking at the mortar between the bricks, not sure why, perhaps they found insects there (?).

The goldfinches were so fast they were a blur, and the starlings hid under leaves. Can anyone identify the russet bird with flecked breast in the fig tree?

A thrush ?

That would be nice! The collective birdsong was amazing and I could catch the differences between the blackbirds, starlings, goldfinch, blue tits etc but it would be so good to hear a thrush.

The russet bird is a female Blackbird. The Blue Tits pecking at the mortar are probably collecting grit in their gizzards to help digestion, though sometimes birds do this to take on minerals (esp. Calcium which they need for eggs).

How lovely. I had birds in my garden during the summer and I was so excited as they had avoided all my bird seeds etc for years. Prob due the cat next door which moved last year

Trouble is that I keep forgetting to fill the feeders so they move on, have to be more diligent, as you say they make a beautiful tune
