Harringay online

Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

I'm getting really sick of Virgin Media outages over the past couple of months. I've had three this week so far,and last night all the services went off around 9 - TV(which I was watching), broadband and phone all out for a couple of hours.

They only give refunds (£5!) if you have a continuous service break for 48 hours AFTER you have reported it, which is rubbish - no compensation for periods of unreliable and intermittent service.

When I finally got through to Virgin by phone (after 38 minutes on hold) they didn't have any record of area-wide problems, and scheduled an engineer to come out Monday to check my house connections (which had been checked two weeks ago by their engineer!).

I then spoke to my neighbours who also had no services and had been having similar problems. Earlier in the day I saw a Virgin Media van parked outside on the street and they've been around a lot, so they are regularly out fixing (or causing) problems around here.

It's concerning that they don't seem to know what's going on in their own network, and the best they can offer is to try and pin it on each individiual household. Anyone else having the same issues?

Yep it's been terrible the last month or so, slow or intermittently cutting out. Today it's out completely since about 2am. Booked an engineer online this morning, then it got "put on hold while we investigate a network problem".

So perhaps they're aware of something.

I am actually thinking of leaving Virgin - Broadband in evening is shocking, phone switched to mobile data last night & many nights we can't download apps.

Yes it's been rubbish this week. My broadband stopped working on Tuesday. When I called them they said they would have to send an engineer to look at it. I looked outside and could see a Virgin engineer playing with lots of cables so it was obvious there was a problem in the area but the call centre were clearly unaware. Then on Thursday my TV and landline stopped working. What I find most frustrating is having to wait about half an hour before you get to speak to anyone. They don't seem to have a clue what's going on in the area. Also you never know how long things are out of service. I only realised my landline was not working because I tried to call them! I feel sorry for elderly people who might rely on their landlines. Not impressed!

Gave up on them years ago, sky are so much better

That's useful to know. I keep meaning to go elsewhere when my contract ends but have been put off by the hassle. Are Sky much more expensive?

They have deals every so often, but there isn't one on at the moment. Keep an eye on sites like https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/phones/cheap-broadband/#76fibreoptic can usually get BT or Sky fibre about £25 a month for a year.

Apart from that seems like the Virgin issue has been sorted now - at least for me?
