Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Is there another round of these happening? I noticed a few of the Ladder roads have had counting machines installed.

I hadn’t heard of another count. Which roads have you seen equipment on?

Pretty sure one was Allison and maybe Warham or Pemberton. They're at the Green Lanes end so easy to see.

If it’s Warham & Allison, it may relate to  the impending reversal of Warham.

I noticed them on Warham and Wightman Road.

Is the reversal of Warham happening soon?

It’s been a bit of an eternal 'soon'. So maybe, maybe not!

Frobisher and Falkland too.

So it’s not just the westbound roads. Hmm...........

Umfreville too, Green Lanes end.

When we met the team in the council leading the Wightman Works months ago (July or so last year) there was a suggestion of another traffic count, which was confirmed in later correspondence. It was suggested this would be carried out once the works were complete. I guess that now they have dribbled to an end this is part of the count, and associated safety audit, which will also be carried out apparently.

According to Ian from the LSCP:

These counters have been put in place to detect HGVs entering the Ladder which will not be detected by the cameras on Wightman Rd, as noted in the minutes of the LCSP meetings in November & December, which I have copied below for convenience.

Relevant minutes below.

The LCSP is very aware of the problems associated with HGVs on the Ladder, which seem to be increasing in number.  The Chair has been pursuing the matter via the CCTV Enforcement Manager, who has been very helpful.  The following points have emerged, after discussion with the Chair:

  • There are 2 enforcement cameras (for the 7.5t limit) on Wightman Road; one near Lausanne Road for southbound vehicles, and one near Lothair Road S for northbound vehicles.
  • This means that an HGV entering Wightman via any ‘up’ Ladder road and then travelling north would not be caught.
  • Enforcement are therefore proposing to carry out a survey on all of the ‘up’ roads to see what vehicles are using what roads. Further enforcement could then be directed at the appropriate areas/hotspots (there is less need to monitor ‘down’ roads because any HGV would already have been caught by either of the two cameras already in use on Wightman).
  • The CCTV Enforcement Manager has met with the Haringey Heartlands developers (St. James/St. William) who have clearly defined Construction Access Routes for all of their vehicles, which make it very clear that Wightman and the Ladder should not be used. All contractors will be reminded of their obligations and the developers, as well as LBH, are willing to take enforcement action if vehicles are found to be breaching the prescribed routes.

This is a serious concern for Ladder residents, not least because of the damage caused to residential property; however we hope that the above is at least one step in the right direction.  Please report directly to us (via the usual email address) the time/location/registration number of any HGV if you are able to record all these details.  We will happily collect the information and pass it on as appropriate.

Oh, excellent.  Would love to know what that usual email address is.
