I had reason to be in the area today so I decided to stroll a couple of hundred yards to take a look at the offending crossing myself.

Much to my surprise, not many people appeared to be noticing it at all.

Pedestrians crossed when it was their turn and the lights were in their favour. Motorists waited patiently until their lights were green, and proceeded accordingly. No one at all appeared to be confused by it, somehow. A few people, including myself, photographed the junction.

School children skipped across happily, smiling, though to be fair they'd probably do so anyway.

No lightning bolts emerged at all and certainly no prophets of any stripe made an appearance to issue any admonitions.

I of course had no way of examining whether anyone experienced any spontaneous genital transmutations or violent swings in their sexual preferences, though if they did they certainly managed to achieve this whilst keeping a straight face.

Potholes did not make themselves available for comment.

Thanks all for the clarification, now I can use the 'community budget' funded crossing in the true spirit of the LGBT community, I shall though, only be using the blue strip. As there are possibly positive safety implications in these, could we have one on the North side of the Bounds Green junction where there is no pedestrian priority at all, and it is downright dangerous (even a black and white one will do, but with traversed stripes)?. I was told TFL are supposed to be reviewing it, but from experience of such bodies, they only prioratise statistically by the highest death count.

Make sure ye only look right too.

Thanks for walking the walk Shariq.....

I’m sure the staff at Woodside High School have been relishing the 200+ abusive messages they have received on the issue.

The crossings are to mark LGBT history month.  Something that happens every year but only seems to upset people when it involves paint.
