Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Whilst I can't vouch for it's source, or the wisdom of its content, the following apparently comes from the posties.

Please share share share

I want to ask you all to do all the posties in the UK a few favours which will make our job easier and keep us all safe.

  1. Please don't open your doors when we are trying to deliver mail. (we will knock if you have a parcel and stand back to a safe distance.) And we cannot hand over mail or parcels so please don't ask us.
  2. Please daily disinfectant your letter boxes, post boxes or porch door handles if you leave open for parcels. (also your wheelie bins handles! )
  3. Please leave your porch door unlocked if possible so parcels can be left without you opening your door.
  4. Please keep your gates open if possible especially the large drive gates to save unnecessary contact.
  5. Tell your kids that all the Rainbow drawings and art work is making us smile each day

I don't think this a lot to ask of you and will make our job so much easier and safer.

We have to be at work and want to stay healthy too.

Thank you

Stay home safe lives

Why clean doors daily when in Hornsey I am lucky to get a delivery once a week? And then only after constant complaints.

I think a number of the requests are questionable. For my part, I take the general message about being considerate for the postie, but beyond observing social distancing in any interaction with them, I’m not sure about the rest.

I just got a package delivered from Royal Mail, ie not the regular postie but van delivery.  He rang on the bell and I fully expected him to leave the small package on the doorstep as is the current practice with most deliveries but to my surprise he waited for me to open the door and handed it to me, while maintaining a distance. He was wearing gloves.  Actually, when I think about it, the package would have fitted through the letter box

Would gladly be considerate to the postie... if I ever saw one. No mail yet again this week.

These seem like reasonable requests to me.

My postie is patient, pleasant and helpful.

Happy to comply with these requests except I can't keep my gate open because our dog might run out.

All postmen & -women in these postal districts must have a line manager of some kind. Why not a message from someone in authority? I'm also eagerly looking forward to safe delivery of Boris's letter by tomorrow latest since I've had nothing else for the past fortnight or more.

I received a Tweet from Royal Mail today after the third time I emailed them. Apparently there is “an issue” in our area, but they are working to get mail to us.

I actually received post today for the first time in two weeks.

If it makes the posties feel more secure then why question it? It's not like they're asking us to put ourselves out or at risk. Our letterboxes are touched by people delivering junk mail etc and who knows where their hands have been? The posties are still providing an essential service to us in the midst of this crisis and need as much support as possible. I thank them for what they're doing and it's not their fault if the system is being disrupted because of the virus. I applaud them for their devotion to duty and helping the wheels keep turning with some normalcy amid the current confusion, fear and sorrow.

I disinfect my doorbell and letter box only after it's been used. There's no point in doing it daily. I too had a parcel delivered by a relief postman. He too stood at the door to hand me the parcel. No gloves or mask (although I was wearing both). I'm afraid I shouted at him to stand back (I'm high risk) and scared the life out of him. I explained and we both apologised to each other.

There isn’t enough protective gear for medical staff, so how other staff, can hope to have any, is very unlikely
