Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Alison - hope your group takes off. I was wondering if it could also be a place for plant swaps. I offered a lovely lithrum on the site last year - originally bought from the RHS Show - which had got so big I had to split it. There were no takers. I also had a bunch of cotoneaster horizontalis seedlings which I ended up planting along the side of a near neighbour's garden (with his permision) to create some more street-green.

I've always been tempted by a greening the streets campaign - like more hedges/plants in front gardens - but I fear I'd be on a loser there.

Thanks Hugh. I did have plant swaps/freebies in mind.

I've always got a few plants around that I'd love to give away - I'm not so great at weeding, especially when the weed is from a plant I'm fond of.

So anyone out there with some spare plants, why not see if there are any takers here. Anyone want a euphorbia for instance?
Not necessarily! A few years ago Hewitt Road (I think it was Hewitt Road?) residents put their heads together and managed to get a lot of new trees planted along the road. So there may be more interest than you think...
South Harringay school gardening club have plans to 'green' the passage near their school. Perhaps there might be more interest in guerilla gardening than you think!
Did you see the video on this site about seed bombs?
Council bods keep chainsawing our trees down in Falkland Rd. That's guerilla warfare. Sometimes they bother to plant another but then someone drives over it!
It's not just the council, when the council put new trees up and down the Ladder a few years back some anti-socialites would snap them leaving small stumps.

I also left potted plants at the front of our house, they were stolen within 48 hours. Need to put bigger ones out there which would be difficult to nick.
Anyone with an interest in 'greening the streets' should check out www.guerillagardening.org - go to the community page and look at the London board. There's a planter near Manor House tube station that I'm scoping out at the moment for when I've a bit more free time. Anyone else know of any unused ground that could do with a make-over?

Thanks Keir, that's a great site. I was wondering whether it would be worth your starting a forum post called Guerilla Gardening. It might attract more attention than a message on a "Best Wishes....." post. (NB If you start a post in a group, because of a to-be-resolved oddity in Ning's set up, new group posts don't show up on the latest activity panel, but replies do. The solution is to add a short PS as a reply to any new group post)
