Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

IF YOU DO NOT WANT
STROUD GREEN TO BE IN TOTTENHAM
DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT NOW!!!!

The next general election seems a long way away, but when the time comes, many people are in for a big surprise. If you live in Stroud Green, you may find you are no longer part of Hornsey and Wood Green constituency, but Instead are part of Tottenham.

So why are we talking about it right now?

Because now you can still do something about it, by responding to the Boundary Commission consultation, in 3 simple steps,  by the 5th of December 2011 (Links at the bottom)

But before you do, take a quick look at what is happening and what rules the Boundary Commission will follow when considering representations from the public.

Watch a short video explaining it

‘STROUD GREEN - WHERE WILL IT BE HORNSEY OR TOTTENHAM?’

https://www.youtube.com/GreenN8TV where we talked to Lynne Featherstone, MP for Hornsey and Wood Green and Stroud Green Councillors Katherine Reece and Richard Wilson and discuss what would be the implications of such a change for local residents. We also asked people living in Stroud Green ward how they feel about the proposed change.

We also asked David Lammy MP for Tottenham, for his views and comments, but sadly have not heard back from him to this day. Is this a sign of things to come if the unthinkable happen?

For more info on how to respond to the consultation go to http://www.greenn8.org

Anyone interested in this topic

SGRA has organised a public meeting

Harringay Stroud Green Library

7:00 this evening.

you are all invited!

They have been trying hard with not a lot of success to find someone from the labour group to come and participate in the debate... The official line the labour group is putting out, is that this is not a political issue...

Hello

I've set up a related debate called "Mr Lammy and our constituency name" if it's any interest to anyone. Some interesting replies from Labour and the Tories.

http://www.harringayonline.com/forum/topics/mr-lammy-mp-and-our-con...

What can I say - You got a lot more then I did, which was in a nut shell - 'we are busy and experiencing technical problems we will answer your question some time in the never ever...'

Interestingly people's instinct in Stroud Green is sopt on feeling that Lammy is not going to care about their problems! Sadly his absence from proceedings is close to the bone proof of that.

This is not meant to offend anyone, but create awareness to the fact that it is happening and that a consultation is under way. That it did! You are all getting hot under the collar...

How people choose to respond to it is their business!

I wonder if anyone bothered to look into it more in depth then the ‘lets hate the other side of the tracks!’ cliché

Did you know that parts of Tottenham - seven sisters ward is being moved to Hackney?

Do you think the proposed changes are devoid of political motivation?

Did anyone look at how the political map would pan out if the proposed changes go ahead?

Can anyone confirm the rumour that the Labour group is making representation to the boundary commission to GET READ OF TOTTENHAM as a constituency all together?

If this indeed is the case, How would you feel if Harringay was added to Hornsey and wood green

Did anyone know that Lammy MP for Tottenham actually lives in Stroud Green and not in Tottenham?

There are many people from Stroud Green on Haringey online. Do you think they will feel welcome by your representations?

Just few things to think about ...

We just think it's funny how many of the speakers on that wobbly video went on about Culture.  Didn't we, HoLers?

I think we had guessed that it's about gerrymandering not fairness.

Yes! Gerrymandering is definitely at play here.

However I would suggest it is not those who appeared in the video that are instigating it...

If you look at what reasons the boundary commission would listen to, it might clarify why people went on about culture, community ties and natural /geographical boundaries...

Re - wobbly video - Yes... we live and learn... first time for everything... Not such a bad attempt for first time though, even if I say so myself.

But tell Mr Wilson to stop waving his hands about. I screamed out loud 5 minutes in and stopped watching

Sorry.

Richard don't feel too bad about the hand waving. In some countries, residents are moved to screaming by politician-behaviour even worse than the waving of hands (hard to believe, I know). BTW thanks for your comprehensive description on Thursday night of the background to the Boundary Commission's proposals.

I take it then John that you can't watch Zeinab Badawi present Reporters?

The professionals do it too Hugh. History presenter Dan Cruikshank is one of the worst offenders. We used to tell them  " For expletive's sake keep your hands in your pockets "

I like the dynamism it brings... And somehow I think people respond to it being natural and expressive. However from an editing point of view it is a nightmare, so I can see where a convention not to do it can stem from.

No, really. It's all about creating new ski slopes. It'll solve the park funding problem as well.

Here's an artists' impression of how it will look from Green Lanes at the east side of the park. Pretty cool? Well, it may be just a bit chilly at the top of the slopes.
