Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!
Shortlist announced for Haringey's £1.5M Social Innovation Fund
Haringey Council announced yesterday the projects shortlisted for its £1.5 million One Borough One Future Fund designed to "support innovation and change, stimulate new ideas and help the council deliver on its key priority of addressing inequality".
Over 300 applications submitted from which 16 have been shortlisted by the 'Innovation Panel'. Applicants now have have until the end of November to develop their idea into a formal business case to be presented to the Panel.
The selected projects are grouped under five headings:
- Regeneration
- Young people
- Health and Social Care
- Environment
- Employment
There is one project under the 'Environment' heading which might strike a chord in Harringay. This programme would aim to encourage economic and social regeneration, by helping independent small and medium enterprises to replace unsuitable shop signage and improve frontages.

Sounds like an interesting bunch of projects, but I hope they find a new name for the one called "Surviving our Streets". Such a negative way of phrasing the programme. It just reinforces the idea that the streets of London are a battle ground you have to approach Rambo style.

Sounds like a really promising mixture, IMO. I can't agree that Surviving our Streets is too strong a name for "an intervention and prevention programme to reduce gun, knife and gang violence" however. Young people have died in Haringey because of exactly these things.
