Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Hi there

Is there anybody else who currently suffers with Virgin Media broadband issues?

I mean people living on N4 or N8 areas.

Yes very slow passed few days
Virgin broadband has been slow and intermittent in N15 too for the past few days.

So it looks like that their issue is bigger than I thought

Yes, for the past week it's been intermittent, Saturday and Sunday hardly had anything at all. I phoned them and after 2 hours on the phone the lady said apparently we are entitled to apply for a refund for the days the service was poor, but only once service is restored. In all honesty I'm thinking of leaving and going back to BT. The service is frequently on/off and we have no signal in our upstairs and downstairs back rooms.

I was calling them yesterday and they told me about some maintenance works which they should finish around 8pm tonight. I wanted to compare different versions of their explanations.

Yes, but when I called on Saturday, they said the maintenance would finish at 9:20pm on Saturday. Then when I called on Sunday to say the service was still poor, they said it would be finished at 8pm on Monday.

Yes, mine has been dire for about a week - so much so that I've been looking at options. There'a apparently a whole raft of ISPs out there that I was unaware of. It seems like the Virgin service is probably so bad because it's so cheap. Two of the best reviewed alternative ISPs (Zen and AA) seem to run at somewhere between £25 and £40 a month for a fibre optic service. However, I'm so fed up with the get-what-you-pay-for Virgin service, that I'm at the point of switching over to one of these more expensive, but apparently very reliable services.

More ISP info and reviews here.

Me too. Really fed up with them. Any advice as to who to choose will be hugely welcomed.

Both Zen and Aspire see to be highly recommended. Zen is also recommended by Which. (See my links above).

What do they say about Vigin Media? The trouble is Cable London is part of their empire and it's a very different beast from the BT phoneline based services that Virgin also operate. It's a shame it has such a poor reputation now (Virgin running it down?) as it's a real positive for the area. New residential buildings in London appear to have patchy access to fibre based broadband which is crazy in a city like London.

Thanks Hugh. I have not even heard Zen. I'll check it out but Is it a big company?

No idea. It doesn't have to be big, just good.
