Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Santander ATM opposite The Salisbury tampered with. AGAIN.

Hi all,

Second time I've seen this happen to the Santander ATM on Green Lanes (opposite the Salisbury).

Card goes in, you're prompted to press the button corresponding to the amount of cash you'd like to withdraw. Usually less than 100 quid, right? ... So you try to press one of the buttons on the left hand side for 10/20/40 pounds, only to realise that the buttons have been covered in slightly larger bits of grey plastic. It's impossible to depress the buttons so you're forced to either use the buttons on the right hand side (withdrawing a minimum of 200 quid),or do the sensible thing by taking your card without withdrawing.

I have reported both incidents to the police via 101. I believe that someone is watching whether or not you choose to withdraw the larger amount of cash. It's right next to St Ann's Road bus stop, so people can watch the ATM users pretty inconspicuously if they're standing at the bus shelter.

I've attached a photo showing the false buttons. My second experience of this occurred at 7.30pm this evening and I reported it to both Santander and the police immediately.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Santander have picked this up vis our Twitter feed. So hopefully we'll see a little more attentiveness from them in the future:

Fantastic! Thanks for publicising it. Good ol twitter.

Yes I've had bad experiences with that Santander street cashpoint, but I've also had serious problems with the one in the branch in Wood Green High Road, a badly laid out and badly supervised place. Either or both may appear in previous threads here- I can't remember.

But as Maggie I think said the cashpoint inside Santander Green Lanes seems fine, and I much prefer the branch to that bigger one in Wood Green.

When the Post Office is open you can get cash at the counter with your bank card. When the PO queue is short I prefer this to using a machine on the street.

Indeed you can, and these days the queue at the Post Office usually is short. So much so that a little while back one of the staff told me she feared for its continuing existence. My own PO in the West Green Road went in the last round of closures. Green Lanes is probably safe for the moment, but it only really gets busy around Christmas whereas once the queues were always long. Good in one way, not so good in another.
