FPR, you made a point very strongly. But I didn't understand it.
I don't assume that you're wrong. It's simply that I couldn't get my head round what you actually meant.
So I asked you to illustrate your point with an example. I don't think that's unreasonable.
I've never claimed that land in Haringey or other parts of London shouldn't be developed or altered. Or that new homes aren't urgently needed.

Just not in your backyard.

It's all very well just criticising everything, but a few answers / solutions might be get us further. I'm not sure on your commitment to actually want to ease the housing shortage, which since the fall in rates of interest on invested money, has become the norm in most large European cities.

"Just not in your backyard".
Untrue, Stephen.
"I'm not sure on your commitment to actually want to ease the housing shortage"
Untrue.
But once again to point out that we have never met. You know very little about me, but you seem to think it's okay to make up things about what's in my mind.

I don't make up things about you, what you think or your motivation. Why do you think this is a useful way to discuss serious issues?

Correct, we have never met, but I do read your comments here, as well as your Twitter postings. All of them. I also wonder how many other HoL members you've actually seen in the flesh. Not many, I bet. In fact, probably not many more than I have met. So what's your point?

I'm aware that you told me that if I don't agree with your postings, not to read them. But of course that would make it very easy for you, wouldn't it? That's what's called 'drying up the opposition and trying to take control of the conversation'.

Talking down to people may well have worked in your councillor days. But here we're all equal - Well, I hope we are.

All my assertions are taken from your own comments. You are against development at Tottenham Hale. One of the best transport hubs in the Borough and an area where increased development is possible. But no, you are against it. (not in your ex-political backyard) In fact, you are against everything that those, who were once your colleagues and those who you used to support do.

Stephen  - Commenting on the style and height of buildings isn't the same as being against all development.

Obviously anyone can read my tweets and posts here. It seems that despite your strong disagreement you choose to follow what I post. I can't imagine why.
But again I'd politely ask you to refrain from making up imaginary stories about what you suppose I think. You really don't know.

Report on the march and meeting (with vox pops), plus interview by Vanessa Feltz of Claire Kober, this morning on BBC Radio London. Link [lasts for 30 days] here (starts at 07.18, runs for 10 mins).  V Feltz has previously said that they (her programme? BBC London overall?) will be following the progress of the HDV.

Alan I'm pointing to most of Haringey, we need to be building mid rise ( you said it yourself about a year ago) like regent street wherever we can to accommodate everyone. Especially on land we all own and could be making some profit to build in better services.

I don't have time to spend with my head in maps. However I have read al the council information, been to a consulatation and as long as everyone that wants to be re-housed in the burough gets re-housed who might have to move, I'm more than happy with what I see.

What is worse for me is not taking a risk. The councils in debt, services are getting chopped back every year and yet there is so much land owned by us all that some numnuts have been doing sod all for with decades.

Feel free to to ensure this is done right. I trust there will be many like you. However I shall be one of the voices that shall be calling loudly to ensure this currently hugely wasted land resource is wasted no longer.

Don't forget, more cleverly we can build in the cities, more of the countryside we can protect.

FPR

Could you clarify what you mean by, "..loudly to ensure this currently hugely wasted land resource is wasted no longer"?

Are you referring to existing housing stock which WILL be demolished in the HDV as a  "hugely wasted land resource"? If you're referring to brownfield sites and empty plots, your comment is completely irrelevant to this discussion. The HDV is not about building on empty plots and brownfield sites.

If you are referring to the estates and businesses as a "wasted land resource", then would you mind explaining the logic of demolishing existing council homes to build new homes which will no longer be council homes? Therefore the rent collected will be 50/50 with a private company.

What will be demolished are: businesses, council homes, a school, GP surgeries, community centres.

If you're happy to see current council tenants and leaseholders pushed off into other areas of the borough, or London, then thats another story.

as long as everyone that wants to be re-housed in the burough gets re-housed who might have to move, I'm more than happy with what I see.

Your comment above clearly shows the lack of knowledge you have about the HDV, yet you still speak as you do. Or, that you're happy with the ambiguous "promise" given to existing tenants even though deep down, you know very well that they will be screwed.

Half of Wood Green should be knocked down, its not fit for purpose. The area has been commonly known as a sh*t hole all my life. This will make lots more new social housing and a profit to help pay back the debt the council is in not to forget new amnesties to give local people more to do.

Wood green so far is just a history of rubbish, riots, crime, neglectful councils and crap buildings. Someone finally is trying to do something about it and make a profit for everyone in perpetuity.

It's gets my vote and yes, I believe the promise.

Well, cant argue with that evidence filled post can I? Do you work in marketing?

Thanks, Anonymoose. It's difficult to try to conduct a sensible discussion, offer (hopefully) accurate information and respond with politeness when people make proposals like knocking down half Wood Green.

I'm also glad to find some common ground with Antoinette, and hopeful that reference to "all the low-life scum" was tongue in cheek.

Plainly there are very divergent views about what can and should be done about the housing crisis. And on the whole I tend to believe that most of the local people engaged in the often heated arguments do actually have the best of intentions towards existing residents and businesses.

In the past fortnight I've been lucky to have an opportunity to meet and listen to a wide range of people who have far more experience and expertise than I do. I hope that wiser views may prevail and at least Haringey leaders may defer and think again about the huge and risky scheme which we are still facing.

The cognitive dissonance presented by fellow HoL posters is incredible. They know full well what the outcome of the HDV will mean for current council residents, vulnerable families and people in temporary houses. Yet they will still post their support for it. Is it racism? is it middle class people showing their disdain for the poor? I dont know. I do know it's not logical.
