Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Hi, thanks for adding me as a new member.

I would like to ask any local historians about a home for Children that was in Florence Road Stroud Green on the 1891 census. My Great Aunt was an orphan in this home but the archivists at the children's Socety cannot help me.

I was under the impression that it was called the Stroud Green Jubilee Home for Children.

Perhaps I am wrong? Hopefully someone will have local knowledge!

I can't help, but it might be worth approaching both the Hornsey Historical Society and Bruce Castle Museum. London Metropolitan Archives may also be worth a try.

Thank you Hugh.
Barbara, there was a children's home that was founded in Stroud Green to commemorate Queen Victoria's jubilee. At some point it was located on Nelson Road and named St Catherine's Home for Girls.

Might be useful to see if the Children's Society have a record for that and if it was previously located on Florence Road.
Thanks Michael, unfortunately I have already been in touch with the children's society and they have no records regarding my relative. The home is not yet listed on the website for old children's homes as yet either.
Thanks for your suggestions though.
