Interesting to contrats that news with an article in Auto Express last autumn:

The number of fines issued for drivers caught using a mobile phone at the wheel has plummeted by 86 per cent in the last five years. Figures from the Home Office show just 16,900 motorists in England and Wales were handed a fixed penalty notice for using a mobile phone behind the wheel last year, compared with 123,000 in 2011.

The news comes just a few months after the UK Government announced it would up the penalties for drivers using mobile phones. From 2017 offenders will be hit with a £200 fine and six penalty points, as opposed to the current £100, three penalty-point fine.

Maybe the increased penalties that came into effect from 1 March this year (£100 fine increased to £200 and 3 penalty points up to 6) have provide more of an incentive!

"We know we can't change the attitudes and actions of all drivers overnight." - Jack Kushner of BRAKE.

Well of course we could, with a proper fixed penalty: detach offending driver from vehicle and mobile phone, then remove both gadgets to the nearest scrapyard.  Jack Kushner is apparently no relation of Jared at Trump Tower.

If their car and phone are so important to them I have no objections to them remaining together for the final journey.

I was just mildly worried about the contaminant effect on the recycled articles.

The " final journey " to include the driver ?
