Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Dear HOLers, I need local help to advertise a family fun day that I am trying to promote. It takes place on Ducketts Common on Sat 15th July. I attach the flier so that you all get the jist. It's run every year by the Met Specials, Police cadets and Met volunteers. The council does not allow us to put any posters on the junctions or lampposts to advertise the day but I can put it on railings/trees etc in people's front gardens with permission. Is there anyone who lives within a short distance of Ducketts Common who would give me permission to tie a laminated poster to a gate or tree? It would be a great help in making the day a success. I live on Sydney so that road is sorted. Thanks very much for any help. Christina Davis

you might also want to ask local shop keepers/cafe owners if they would display a poster in their windows.

yes, of course. I have a poster in the ducketts common cafe, and will put in Tesco on Turnpike Lane this morning too. Thanks v much.

Not sure if this is the right place for this but in all
the times and days I have walked past or been in Duckets Common, I have never once seen a girl or a woman in the basketball courts. Do you know how to contact the organiser of the day? I Would like to suggest that they have some female or girls' events on those courts to start letting girls know they have a right to use those spaces too.

hello Claire, the event I am trying to promote is ostensibly a Metropolitan Police event and we won't be using the courts at all- I think it is probably Haringey Council who own and operate the park facilities on the Common. I have certainly seen women playing basketball before. And I am pretty sure there used to be a netball team that played one evening - not sure if they still do. But I am sure Haringey Council would be interested in making sure everyone has access to these courts. Approach them with an idea!

Yesterday,( Saturday ) there was some kind of event in the basketball courts - I think a basketball shooting competition. There certainly were girls/women taking part.
