Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Long Empty Moroccan Restaurant in Crouch End and some Harringay Refurbs

The former Moroccan restaurant at 1 Park Road Crouch is finally undergoing a refurb. The blurb by Berkhamstead based HERE is almost painfully community and locally oriented (and a little dahling), but it's all better than an empty shop.

In Harringay, I'm told that the new triple Turkish is due to open this week. The Snug refurb looks to be almost complete, the new bar-cafe just about opposite should be open by the end of next week and I noticed today that there's finally action in Mezzo and the former Chinese herbal shop next door (there is planning permission to make into a single restaurant).

Oh god that is just SO Crouch End *rolls eyes*, I was hoping for a Lussman's.

Sad news about the triple Turkish, but then as much as I moan about them I love kebabs so I will probably check it out.

I guess when you say another double-front restaurant we all know what that means... When we moved here in 1988 Mezzo was a friendly chips-and-egg cafe called Alison's. It briefly became something else before opening as the Erenler, which I think was the first ocakbasi restaurant on this stretch, and for a long time our favourite. Somehow, just as the local boom in Turkish places was taking off, they managed to go out of business. I wonder if the owners of Mezzo are the same people?

Oooh..the days of Erenler!

Things have been going on at Mezzo for around 3-4 months Hugh especially at the back to prepare the way for the refurbed and very much extended restaurant.

Lots of demolition, of the shisha smoking den etc., laying foundations etc. It's been quite noisy for us locals with a lot of skips coming and going in Stanhope. They finally started building the new extended place about 3- 4 weeks ago. I always take a peek when I'm passing. I hope that final product won't present too much noise into the gardens and houses in Stanhope- it could do if they have big windows/doors opening to the back where the shisha part was.

We used to really like Mezzo as it contrasted with the other Turkish places, being quiet and low lit with that nice snug upstairs area. I really hope they try to recreate that feel, i think it would make sense to help differentiate themselves
