Fascinating. St Mary and St George in Cranleigh Gardens is Hornsey Parish Church.  Wonder if they still administer the bequest?

I'm assuming that you know the link between Hornsey and Harringay EMC, but for others reading who don't, the two terms originate from the same root (see my Wikipedia article) and were only gradually started to take on different meanings. From about the seventeenth century Hornsey was used more and more when referring to the civic and ecclesiastical entities and Harringay almost exclusively for the Manorial one. As you see in the snippet you've shared above, though, by the mid-eighteenth century, things still needed clarifying with 'X alias Y'.

With the building of Harringay House and then the development of the neighbourhood of Harringay, the meaning of the two finally diverged.

I love the fierce determination NOT to have any Highgate side people benefit from this gift. Do we assume hostility between the two 'sides'? and would that explain the slow transfer of the synonymous names Hornsey and Harringay leaving Hornsey effectively dividing Harringay from Highgate?
