Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

The story of Walter Tull, the first black player for Spurs and the first black officer in the British Army who volunteered to fight in WW1 is coming to a street near you!

The first performance at Bernie Grant Arts Centre in Tottenham played to a full house and was much enjoyed as a cast of young aspiring actors from our boro played a dazzling array of roles in telling the story of a young man of mixed heritage struggling to overcome adversity in the years leading up to WW1.

Caution: while this play is suitable for all but the very young, parents and carers should be aware that there are a number of instances of racial terms of abuse.

The final performance for the time being will be at The Church on Mattison Road this Saturday July 26th at 7.00 pm.

Admission is free, though there will be a collection to aid the work of the Catholic Worker group at the Church who run a much needed night shelter among other altruistic works at the centre. The building is not currently functioning as a church so this is not only an opportunity to see the first production by Tottenham Theatre but a rare chance to see the inside of this charming building.

Hi Philip

I think you will see that the the Church space is very much functioning as a church and is open every morning for prayer and contemplation.

The play sounds good. Well done to all those involved.

Apologies for my misinformation

Thanks for this Philip.  It sounds really good and I would love to see it - do you know of any other dates and venues it will be playing?

Yes, it is playing at The Hub, Lordship Recreation Ground N17 at 2pm the same day. there are a number of events on there thru the afternoon. There is also a performance 7pm on Friday 25th at Bruce Grove Youth Centre, Bruce Grove N17. It will return for at least two performances in schools for Black History Month in October, but I expect there may be more.

Thanks Philip, I will try and catch it at one of the other dates.
