To be fair, I've had no problems with Veolia at all - had a couple of missed collections which were picked up promptly, and when I've requested new bins they sort it out really quickly. I know other people have issues, but my experience has been very positive. I wouldn't say the same for their commercial service mind you.

My food waste has not been taken for three weeks - the bin is spilling over. I called today when yet again they failed to pick it up, and was told I'll have to report it tomorrow because they can't log a missed collection on the day, even though it's the third timein a row!

They also only half-emptied the black bin both this time and last time, so it gets too full after two weeks.

My experience is that they are incapable of keeping Green Lanes free from strewn litter and piles of seeping rubbish bags.

Julie Davis is in court tomorrow fighting for her job because she complained to one of her local councillors about her rubbish not being collected. Just Saying.

Very poor 'service' recently. Food waste in caddies and garden waste in its official bag has been ignored for a month now, despite multiple emails and even a conversation with a Veolia representative who assured us it would be dealt with. Sent yet another complaint email this evening, having left a large notice on the bins imploring the crew to take the steadily rotting waste today, which they chose not to do. Again. Will call them tomorrow. Meanwhile the growing cloud of flies buzz happily around the food caddy.
I have also personally seen them on Wednesday when they come to Beresford Road for collection actually look in the bins and caddies and if they are not happy with the amount of waste that is left in the bins and caddies they just leave it but if you put the wrong item in the recycling bin see how fast they serve you with a notice.

This sounds like the system is breaking down. What's going on?

Every year the budget gets cut.  Something has to give.  I assume it's a direct consequence of the Tory cuts - the lion's share of a council budget comes from the central government, not council tax.

Want your waste collection quality to stay as is or get worse, vote Tory in 2015.

The system is not breaking down, simply because it's not a system designed to collect local rubbish but a scheme for collecting very large amounts of public funds. Handing over 'delivery' of critically important public services to these Robocop corporations is at best myopic and at worst criminally negligent and stupid. Case in point: on Green Lane after a few weeks they simply removed the organic waste bins and didn't bring them back. And what recourse do the Council or local people have? Absolutely none.

Recourse - I could suggest contacting  your ward councillors, if you're indeed interested in pushing back to some extent?

Factual footnote to earlier posts: the garden and food waste collection did happen on our road this week, but a day and a half late - had I been Mr Tidy and taken the bag and bin back inside it would have been missed.
