Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Police are investigating a shooting yards from Turnpike Lane station.

Shocking to think what could have happened to any on of those bullets. Let's hope the police actually start making arrests of those gang members selling drugs outside Turnpike Lane rather than just chasing them off.

Is it just me, or have things got worse recently ?

Two separate shootings at the corner of Wightman and Turnpike lane. Two separate shooting incidents at Turnpike Lane Station. Man stabbed to death on Station Road. Man arrested after threatening police with a machete near the Arena.

What is going on ?

Drug wars between rival gangs is what's going on.

Oh that's all right then. Finsbury Park Ranger will be along soon to tell us again that it's a waste of police resources to target drug dealers.

The machete attack was an attempted murder on an anti gang police officer. Fair play to the police on that one for putting themselves in harms way.

The pedestrianisation of the end of Graham Rd by the tube has had some interesting consequences. I always say that the passage is a crap place to deal drugs or mug people but that looks ideal. Lots of space for you and your mates, room for getaway cars, an alleyway at either end, the green for running across and the safety of the tube station if things go pear shaped. If you are at that location you have so many options to get away; perhaps they could look into some design solutions rather than just moar police officers.

So you just move the dealers somewhere else instead of dealing with the problem ?

Maybe, on conviction, dealers should be transported to New Zealand ?

No you're missing the point. I think the design of that area lends itself to crime at the moment.

To be fair John the area is normally safe save for the people parked right at the top near the tube station. It's well lit and always plenty of people about.

And a stabbing at the junction of Green Lanes and Station Rd. Police are treating it as a murder. What is going on around here? I fear reprisals and a spiral effect

9:30pm - and we were told at that public mtg held by the police that they had a dedicated team for Turnpike Lane (covering that time period). Graham Rd is in pretty much a dead end area as far as the road network is concerned so it really shouldn't have been difficult for the police to surround them. That machete attack on the other hand saw a stream of police vehicles head towards the scene. I really don't get it.

Just as a side point, how come this whole scene was filmed/framed by someone's window webcam. Looks all a little too neat.

There are two choices, let criminals enjoy a monopoly on the drugs industry or let professionals ( ideally government health workers ) enjoy that monopoly.

The first choice costs a fortune to police and means the drugs industry takes place on the streets outside our homes and in front of our children. It also means we are often paying to police lifestyle choices that are more healthy ( marijuana ) than the ones legally available ( Nicotine and alcohol ). It also means drug users have very little control over the drugs they are actually using

The later choice would raise so much money that the UK could afford the best schools and police force in the world. It would also cut crime dramatically.

Until we change the laws, however, nothing will change.
I agree we should take it out the hands of the criminals and have drugs managed by the state. However, as they are illegal you can't turn a blind eye as has been suggested around Turnpike Lane. So many people buying has clearly lead to some sort of turf war over what is probably a very lucrative spot
