Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Our survey shows that children in Tottenham schools are exposed to pollution way above legal limits.

So we have launched a petition calling on Haringey to do more to tackle the pollution problem. We recognise they are taking action, but the urgency of the situation requires even more – and the more support we can show, the more willing the Council will be to take strong measures. We need hundreds of people to sign up – so far we have about 80.

Please sign the petition here calling on Haringey to do more to tackle the deadly pollution on our streets

And please share with friends, colleagues and family in Haringey.

Thanks

You're right the measures a quite mild, the main actions will need to come from the Mayor of London and get government backing - to  shift away from diesel (and fossil fuels generally) quickly, across buses, taxis, HGVs, vans - and private cars. So in this petition we have just focussed on the things Haringey could do more of. The main thing is to show there is real public concern and urgency.

The council would have you think that we must wait for London-wide or even nation-wide initiatives but actually there is a great deal local councils can do to significantly decrease pollution. The obvious local example was the filtering of Wightman Road during the bridge repair. This reduced through-traffic across the area and therefore reduced pollution not just for the 10,000 immediately local residents but also across the wider area.

I'm sure there are other areas in Haringey which could also benefit from similar measures, with significant immediate reduction in pollution.

JoeW I agree, and we need to give the Council the push - and the courage - to take those more radical steps by showing that people are behind them. So we need a lot more signatures.

I've signed the petition and shared it on Facebook. Can you also consider posting this on Alexandra Park Neighbours? This is the baby sister of HoL and Bowes and Bounds in the Ally Pally area.  People are interested in air pollution and it would be good to spread the word.
