Songwriting Skills

Hi. My name is Chris and I am a singer songwriter living on Green Lanes N4.

If you already sing and play an instrument (or just play an instrument) - (preferably piano, bass guitar, guitar / other stringed instruments) or in fact most instruments that can play chords) and wish to explore the art/skills of songwriting then why not start this newer year with a one-off session?

I have been a guitar teacher and have worked in the retail and publishing areas of the music industry. I have many years of experience in teaching, performing, recording and songwriting. I play in bands producing their own original music and released my own album in 2009. I have spent a week with Ray Davies from The Kinks learning songwriting skills.

I have run creative writing classes and have a deep love of popular music and the craft of songwriting. I am CRB checked and also work at the Royal College of Art.

The process of songwriting can help to express feelings and thoughts and can really give a sense of achievement as well as being FUN!!

A one-off morning session includes breaking down a commonly used song structure. Using this chosen template to begin a process of song construction. Discussing thoughts on inspiration on lyric writing, choosing a style, approach and theme (we may use a chosen theme from a play or TV series if necessary). Being inquisitive and trying to use the KISS approach (Keep It Simple Stupid) on your first songwriting adventure will all combine to creating a song in your chosen style to hopefully record and take away.
