"Propaganda is to a democracy what the bludgeon is to a totalitarian state."
On the streets of Venezuela, you have two choices, "homeland socialism or death". In a new exhibition Andrea Moreno explores the absurdities and distorted normalities of everyday life in her native country. Andrea draws on diverse influences from cave paintings to Santaría, Brujería to Aboriginal ceramics. As part of her launch Andrea has teamed up with Spilt Milk Poetry to create a special happening, bringing together the vision of her exhibition with the voices of the people in the room. Coinciding with Andrea's Venezuelan street food pop up, Caracas Baby, we invite those enjoying the offers of food and drink at Tottenham Social to Write On The Night. This means, periodically, between tasty food and sips, people are encouraged to pen a haiku on the topic of politics and propoganda relating to Andrea's exhibition. Poets are welcome, of course, and there are open mic slots available, but the spirit of the night is very much come as you are and engage if you'd like. Food and drink brings people together, perhaps with words we can connect a little more.
