I have bought the rights to an incredible powerful, award-winning documentary called a Strike A Rock which will be screened at the Bernie Grant Arts Centre on 22nd and 29th March. The documentary is not publicly available, so this a rare opportunity to watch an important, inspiring and relevant film about a little know struggle in Marikana, South Africa.
Strike A Rock is a documentary which focuses on the struggle and friendship between two South Africa women (Thumeka and Primrose) who decide to take on Lonmin PLC, the third largest platinum-extractor in the world, following the 2012 Marikana Massacre during which 37 striking miners who worked for Lonmin were killed by police.
I was lucky enough to see the film a year ago and was personally really moved by the film so I decided to organise another screening in Tottenham, to raise awareness about Thumeka and Primrose's ongoing struggle as well as the multitude of other women-led grassroots movements around the world.
I will do a short intro and discussion before and after the film if you would like to join.
